Rotary District 6860

From the Desk of

and

Polio Plus Committee Chair - John Beard

This packet is your club’s tool kit for a D6860 Pennies for Polio fundraiser. Rotary expects every club to participate in fundraising to support efforts to eradicate polio worldwide. Rotarians have successfully met the Gates Foundation $200 Million Challenge, and exceeded it. But our efforts to fulfill our pledge to the global community to eradicate this crippling disease are not finished.

The materials at your disposal on this website provide a suggested strategy for getting your community involved in learning about and supporting Rotary’s ongoing polio eradication program. We hope you will seriously consider adopting this strategy. If not, design your own strategy to fit your club and community and mark your calendar now to attend the District Conference in April, 2014, to present your club’s contributions to DG Tom Greene.

For this strategy, items highlighted in red are where you need to insert your club's specific information, names of superintendents, principals and schools, your club letterhead, and Club President's signature block. As appropriate, some materials can be printed back to back for efficiency and economy. Each sample letter has been clearly indicated whether it is for elementary/middle school or high school. The letter to parents goes to elementary and middle schools; the letter to students goes to high schools.

Your letter and the template for the superintendent have the district officer signature blocks. You may wish to add your own letter with that to the superintendent.

On behalf of the district leadership, thank you for your consideration to participate in this district-wide effort. Every club, regardless of its fundraiser strategy should involve as many club members as possible. This project is labor intensive on a short term, and you can find something for every member to do regardless of age, classification, or time constraints. I think you will be surprised by the students' enthusiasm to participate in a program that helps people less fortunate than themselves; invite them to join you in putting The Rotary Foundation’s motto – “Doing good in the world” – into motion. Let us know if we
can help in any way, and let us know what you are doing to support PolioPlus.
