District 5300 NEWS - from District Governor LEE

WELCOME TO YOUR DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

Lee Mothershead enjoys toys...his Dean's Office at Southwestern Academy is full of toys; his basement in San Marino holds more...and Lee is not only computer literate, he's computer crazy! Great for our District communications, though - here's news now, and more coming regularly through another great year of service.

Service is the key word for Rotary, and certainly for the new District Governor. Lee's life has been one of service to others, with generous contributions of time as well as funds. The District Governor's job is to encourage and to facilitate - then it's Clubs and individual members that DO! Let us know your needs, your questions, and especially your accomplishments - that your electronic bulletin can share throughout the district.

ALHAMBRA'S 'ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR': DAVID WEAKLEY

District Assembly Chair, Director of Club Service, Alhambra Rotarian David H. Weakley was recognized by his club for 36 years of "countless acts of service to the organization and the communities it serves". The local press noted "not a single member of the club expressed surprise when the announcement was made. Surprises would only occur if Weakley were not so named."

SEND IN YOUR NEWS, YOUR VIEWS...

your questions, your inspirations - everything to share with others in our District to the Newletter Editor, Ken Veronda at kveronda@yahoo.com

United in another year of service as we

FOLLOW YOUR ROTARY DREAM!

NEW FORMAT AND INTERNET DISTRIBUTION OF NEWSLETTER

Beginning in July, 1998, the District newsletter will be published on the Internet on the District 5300 web site. It will contain all of the information that was published and mailed to Rotarians in the current newsletter. Publishing on the Internet will save the cost of printing and postage and bring District news to members more quickly.

Each club president should select a member with an Internet account to be responsible for making copies of the newsletter and distributing them to members. That member should send an e-mail message to Chris Datwyler at nchrisd@ix.netcom.com   requesting that they be included on the newsletter notification list. When a new edition of the newsletter is available on the web site he will send an e-mail message to your designated member. The newsletter can be printed directly from the web site on any printer. To get a copy from the web site just follow these instructions:.

  1. Open your Internet browser.
  2. Go to the District 5300 Web Site by entering www.district5300.org in the "Address" or "URL" field and press ENTER.
  3. When the home page appears, click on Newsletter located on the left side of the page.
  4. When the Newsletter appears on your screen click on PRINT in your browser.
  5. Make copies and distribute to your members.

In addition to the newletter, the web site will have other information useful to Rotarians. Currently the site has the district calendar, meeting locations and times for every club for make-ups, information about every club, dates for the Governor's club visits, biographies of our new District Governor and District Governor nominee. During the year we will add new items including information about District-wide events like the District Conference and Assembly. The site can be easily updated, so let us know about meeting location and calendar changes. If you want to post information about a district-wide event, let us know too. Send messages to District Governor, Lee Mothershead at lmothers@pacbell.net  or to Chris Datwyler, Chairman of the District's Computer Literacy Committe and Webmaster at nchrisd@ix.netcom.com

Although the web site won't be official until July 1, 1998, any Rotarian can visit the site now. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
